Antique Swedish cheese drainer ( 19th century )
Beautiful 19th-century hand-carved wooden cheese board, carved from a single piece of solid wood.
This is a very large one, measuring no less than 98 cm in length.
The surface slopes slightly concave towards one side, where a notch or spout has been cut out to allow liquid to drain away.
Between 1800 and 1900, these boards were used in cheesemaking. Freshly made cheese was placed in molds on the board, after which the excess liquid could drain away through the spout into a bucket.
The patina shows how time has left its mark. The board displays a beautifully weathered surface with natural cracks and lovely color variations.
Nowadays, these boards are highly sought after in the world of antiques and interior design and are no longer easy to find. A very fine and unique decorative piece for your table or on the wall.
Folk art and Swedish craftsmanship.
