Rare Norwegian antique wooden kubbstol / cupchair - 19th century

€ 850,00
Stock 1 pc.

This beautiful, antique Scandinavian chair, also known as a 'cup chair', is a unique object. What makes it most special is that this chair was hand-carved from a single solid piece of tree trunk.

Cup chairs, often attributed to Sweden, are historical examples of Scandinavian furniture making. The chair features a striking bowl- or cup-like shape in the backrest. They were sometimes also called cooper chairs or trunk chairs.

This particular example is a smaller model and originates from Norway. The wear and remnants of the original paint show that it has been used intensively for generations. What makes it amazing are the deep cracks, the faded colors, the remnants of red, yellow, and green paint in the wood, and the beautiful patina.

A heart-shaped opening can be found in the backrest.

The chair is super sturdy and robust, and a real eye-catcher in your interior! Period: circa 1800 - 1850
