Scandinavian travel chest / bridal chest

Beautiful wooden chest with a deep, rust-brown red base color.

The wood used for this chest is oak, indicating that it originates from Denmark. It is a beautifully weathered piece featuring hand-painted floral motifs and garlands surrounding the initials and the year 1817 on the front.

The corners of the chest are reinforced with sturdy dovetail-shaped iron plates, which have been hand-forged. On the side, you can see robust, sturdy hand-forged handles. The lock mechanism is also beautifully detailed, featuring a heart-shaped / pear-shaped lock plate with a matching original key.

The chest is in authentic condition and still looks fantastic.

In the 19th century, this type of chest was used as a bridal chest / travel chest in which valuables and possessions were stored.
