Stained pot à graisse | Creil et Montereau
This is an antique French pot à graisse (or storage jar) from the 19th century, made by the famous French earthenware manufacturer Creil et Montereau.
The bottom features a stamp with a three-masted ship, the text "Creil et Montereau", and the mark "Émail Sans Plomb Déposé" (Patented Lead-Free Glaze). This type of mark typically dates from the second half of the 19th century to around 1900.
The glaze exhibits beautiful crazing and a stained, buttered patina characteristic of antique French tableware and pottery.
Originally, these jars were used in French kitchens to store lard, confit, butter, or preserved vegetables and meats.
In good condition with a lovely aged patina. There is a tiny old chip visible on the bottom edge.
