Large antique French confit pot – 19th century – Provence – H 28 cm
A beautiful, large confit pot from Provence, Southern France, featuring the characteristic ochre-yellow glaze.
These pots were used to preserve poultry and meat; they were buried in earthen cellar floors up to the level of the glaze to keep the contents fresh. This explains why the glaze covers only the upper half and the interior.
Period: 1830–1880
Origin: Southern France (Provence) and Southwestern France.
The pot displays lovely glaze imperfections, clearly revealing its rich history and traces of authentic use—characteristics that give it the very look we love.
