Antique, English paper mache bulldog candy container, no. 2
This is a characterful antique English papier-mâché bulldog candy container dating from the 1920s-1930s.
It is made of papier-mâché. The head forms the removable lid/cap, after which the hollow body could be filled with candy.
The bottom states that they were manufactured in the United Kingdom; MADE IN ENGLAND
The registered design number indicates that they were made in a series in 1932.
Registered design code: (Reg.No. 773345/6)
Both figures show authentic signs of age, giving them a beloved 'shabby chic' look.
Because pressed cardboard candy containers were very vulnerable to moisture and children's hands, it is rare to find a pair complete with matching heads.
It is a set, but sellable individually!
